Blue Licks Battlefield State Park and Nature Preserve in Kentucky is a great place to visit and enjoy taking a hike through history. Some of the trails are buffalo traces. That is a fancy phrase for pathway.
Buffalo traveled throughout the area and would travel on the same pathways year after year which pounded the earth.
In fact, the road that you take to get there (US68) is indeed an old buffalo trail. A lot of the roads we drive on today are old buffalo traces.
As you hike along the trail you’ll pass the area where a 300 room resort used to be located and the historic Battle of Blue Licks.
Short’s Goldenrod can be found along the old buffalo trails plus look for information from the Nature Conservancy.
