Fungi — No Idea What Kind

I found this on a hike at Beaver Creek Wildlife Area. Ifoudn this growing under the layer of bark on a dead tree. No idea what it is:

I’ve scoured the Peterson Flash Guide to Mushrooms. Yep. Still no idea. Do you know which fungus it is?

It kind of looks like a tigertop (poisonous). Also, if you are going to go out looking for mushrooms to eat then go out with someone who is an expert at identifying mushrooms so you don’t posion yourself because that would be bad. Really Bad.
