Saturday, June 28, 2014 will you be camping under the stars?
This Saturday is the Great American Backyard Campout.
We are taking the pledge and you can too!
We will be camping out, if we can manage to get the tent set-up and cleaned. See last time we were camping, a massive thunderstorm hit. I was working on the second edition of 60 Hikes within 60 Miles Cincinnati. I decided to make a weekend of doing the hikes around Versailles, Indiana. My mother offered to watch the kids and my husband and I got a weekend away.
However, at midnight when the wind picked up and the ground shook and then lightening crackled overhead and the massive oak next to us creaked and groaned around 3 a.m. — I said, “Let’s Pack it up. I’m not dying in a tent in a state campground.”
In the pounding rain we shoved everything into the back of the van and then slept uncomfortably in the van in an area with no trees overhead. The tent covered in mud and leaves was spread out in the garage and then well, life happened.
And, it is still spread out across part of the garage. But, tonight and tomorrow. We are going to get it out and set it up. I hope we have all the tent poles and stakes!
Make the pledge to get your tent out, dust off the dried mud, wipe away the cobwebs, and make some memories!
